Postdoctoral Researcher, Hokkaido University, Japan

I'm 28 years old, but I'm still asked to show my ID when I order alcohol in foreign countries!! I'm from Sapporo, northernmost island of Japan, where it's freezing cold in winter, but of course warmer than Antarctica.  This will be my second time to go to Antarctica. I’m a sea ice scientist and my main job is investigating about ice in the ocean. The global warming could affect to sea ice. Satellite data can continuously provide the information of sea ice in the world. Because the satellite data may not be correct, we need to check by in-situ observation. This is my main theme in this voyage. I will set some instruments in the vessel and helicopter to get sea ice information.

In the previous cruise, there were very delicious croissants (my favorite food) at every breakfast. So, I applied to join this experiment again for the memorial croissant. I'm a sea ice scientist.
