Mats Granskog has a PhD from University of Helsinki (Finland), studying sea ice in the Baltic Sea. Currently he is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Lapland, located at the Arctic Circle, in northern Finland. His main research interests are how sea ice shapes biogeochemical cycling of elements, and how river runoff interacts with sea ice in Arctic waters and the Baltic Sea. He has taken part in several expeditions studying sea ice and oceanography in Arctic waters and Baltic Sea. This is his first expedition in the Southern Ocean.
