PhD Student, Quantitative Marine Science Program, CSIRO & University of Tasmania, Australia

At the moment I am a PhD student in the Quantitative Marine Science Program (QMS) - a joint program between the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research) and the University of Tasmania (UTAS). Before starting my PhD I finished my diploma in Marine Environmental Studies in Oldenburg, Germany - my thesis being on 'Effects of the Isthmus of Panama on the sensitivity of the climate system to variations in Earth's orbital parameters'. Then I came to Hobart, Australia, to work on the circulation underneath ice shelves with the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC. Now in my PhD i try to explain why the ocean is so skinny and what the consequences of this spareseness are. To get away from the computer for a while and visit beautiful Antarctica i'll be working on the physical oceanography side of things on this sea-ice cruise.
