Lance Cowled

Meteorologist

Lance is meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology. He starting forecasting in Sydney in 1973 and has been posted to the RAAF Richmond, Butterworth (Malaysia), RAAF Pt Cook and Hobart. Lance started coming to Antarctica as a Meteorologist in 1989 and has been lucky enough to do 7 summers at Davis and Casey. When working in Hobart he forecasting at the Tasmanian/Antarctic regional office.

During off duty hours, Lance plays with various music organisations, including the Derwent Symphony Orchestra. He even brought his horn with him, of course. (Doesn't everybody?)

This is probably Lance's last trip to Antarctica and he thinks it's the best one - then again, he thinks the best trips are always the one you're on! Lance says he's delighted to be travelling with such a great mix of old hands (including people who have travelled south with him many times before) and enthusiastic new people, making the voyage such a pleasure.
