Murray Doyle

Master RSV Aurora Australis

I first went to sea as a Cadet with the Australian National Line in 1970 and passed my Masters Certificate in 1981. I have sailed around the world with service on container ships, bulk ships and oil tankers.

I was employed by P&O as Chief Officer on Aurora Australis in 1996 and served on the vessel running to Antarctica until 2004 when I left to take command of MV Oceanic Viking.

The Oceanic Viking is a Customs Fisheries Patrol Vessel operated by P&O on Charter to Australian Customs Service, patrolling the fisheries of the Southern Ocean. I returned to command the Aurora Australis in 2006.

During this voyage my job, with the assistance of the Officers and Crew, is to navigate the vessel safely in the area required and give all assistance possible to enable the scientists to have a successful voyage.

I find relaxation is reading, especially biographies and history, walking and travelling (going to those places I have just sailed past).
