Tim Sharpe

Chief Officer

Hi - my name is Tim and I am a member of Aurora’s bridge team. Our job is to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel through the ice and ocean and to position the ship so our skilled deck crew can deploy the valuable scientific equipment and expeditioners into the water and onto the ice.

I have been working in the Southern Ocean since 2000 and consider it an honour and a privilege to be a part of such a special program.

I spend around half the year at sea on P&O vessels and when I’m not away working on a ship I am busy pursuing my personal interests which include kite surfing, scuba diving and fast cars.

My perfect day when I’m on leave is a 20 degree sunny morning at the race track with the WA Sports Car Club pushing my Honda S2K to a personal best lap time.

I also enjoy the wilderness and am a keen traveller in my spare time - usually spending around 3 months of the year backpacking in foreign countries.

My ultimate goal in life is to command a vessel and to enjoy the lifestyle that a career at sea offers.
