Annette Scheltz

Annette is from Germany and is working as a Sea Ice Ecologist at Kiel University. When she was invited to join the SIPEX voyage she saw it as a great chance to get sea ice samples from East Antarctica. The University that Annette works for has many samples from the Arctic but very little from Antarctica – especially the area where the SIPEX voyage is visiting. Annette is particularly interested in collecting and studying samples of tiny worms that live in the sea ice.

Prior to becoming a sea ice ecologist, Annette trained as a primary school teacher but is now very happy doing her current job. In her spare time Annette enjoys spending time with her family (she has 6 grandchildren!), walking her Labrador dog, gardening and sailing.
